Abstract

This research aims to analyzed students' abilities in writing descriptive text in class VIII-3 of SMP NEGERI 2 BERASTAGI. The method used in this research is qualitative method. This research was conducted in class VIII-3 which focused on generic structures in writing descriptive text, namely Identification Paragraph and Description Paragraph. From the results of data analysis on 32 students, there were 11 students who still made mistakes in writing the Identification Paragraph. The researchers found that some students still have difficulty in writing descriptive text using correct generic structures, so students need a lot of practice at home and at school.
