Abstrak
The purpose of this study was to determine the description of student learning motivation, to determine the causes of low student motivation and to find out the efforts made by teachers to increase student motivation. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research sample consisted of 25 students. Emphasize data collection carried out using a learning motivation questionnaire and interviews with class teachers. The results of this study are (1) the description of student learning motivation in science subjects is low. (2) the causes of low student motivation are: Students are always overshadowed by the thought that students are not capable of learning science. In doing student assignments, it is only just doing it without caring about whether or not the assignment is given. Students in the learning process mostly listen to the teacher quietly, without wanting to ask the teacher if there is a teacher's explanation that is not understood. Students are too indifferent in setting standards for their learning success. This causes students to be lazy to learn science. The teacher's efforts are still not maximal in making science material important for students. The learning methods that are often used by teachers are still dominated by lecture methods and are less varied. (3) The efforts made by the teacher to increase student motivation are: clarifying the goals to be achieved. arouse student motivation. using a variety of attractive presentation methods. create a pleasant atmosphere in learning. give reasonable praise of each student's success. provide an assessment of student work. provide comments on student work results. creating competition and cooperation among fellow students.
