Abstract
The objective of the research is to improve the speaking skill of the students in Grade V of State Primary
School 104219, Tanjung Anom through the use of jigsaw learning model. This research used a
classroom action research method. It was collaboration between the researcher and the class teacher.
The data sources of the research were informant, that is, the class teacher of the students in Grade IV,
the result of observation on the learning process with the cooperative learning model of Jigsaw type,
and official documents. The data of the research were gathered through observation, in-depth interview,
and test of achievement. The validity of the data was tested by using a data source triangulation and a
method triangulation. The data were then analyzed by using a descriptive comparative method by
comparing the speaking of skill of the students between the cycles by using a critical analysis, that is,
by revealing the strengths and weaknesses of the class teacher and students during the learning process.
The research process consisted of two cycles, and each cycle comprised four phases, namely: (1)
planning, (2) implementation, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The results of the analysis are as
follows: The preliminary average score of the achievement test prior to the treatment is 63.19, and the
classical learning completeness is 36.84%. Following the treatment of Cycle 1, the average score of the
achievement test becomes 68.21, and the classical learning completeness is 63.15%. After the treatment
of Cycle 2, the average score of the achievement test becomes 77.89, and the classical learning
completeness is 78.94%. Based on the results of the analysis, a conclusion is drawn that the use of
jigsaw learning model can improve the speaking skill of the students in Grade V of State Primary School
104219, Tanjung Anom.
