Abstract
Learning objectives include three aspects, namely cognitive aspects, affective aspects and psychomotor aspects. So every student must have these three aspects so that the teaching and learning process runs well. From the results of observations in Class IV of SDN 173552 Simare-Mare Jae, it was still found that students had low understanding in using punctuation marks. This can be seen from writing essays, students who show the ability to understand the use of punctuation marks in writing essays are still relatively low, so there are still many students who have not reached the KKM. Based on this, it can be understood that the importance of using punctuation marks in writing essays has a great influence on students' written work. When writing essays, punctuation needs to be improved and understood by every writer, especially students. The placement of punctuation marks needs to be understood to improve language skills, by paying attention to good and correct grammar, students can get used to the fact that this really needs to be done, especially in writing skills. Where writing activities can be done by anyone, but the ability to write well and correctly cannot be done by everyone. Based on data and information received from observations in class IV, it turns out that the understanding of the use of punctuation obtained by students in the Indonesian language learning process is still not optimal, this can be seen from the scores of Indonesian in class IV for 20 students.
