Abstract

The process of implementing learning in elementary school still uses the lecture method, question and answer, and assignments which are too monotonous, causing students to get bored and not active during the learning process. Therefore, the authors conducted classroom action research at SDN 020254 Binjai City. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in science learning, namely simple plane material by applying the Discovery Learning learning model. This study used the classroom action research (PTK) method, this PTK lasted for 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of 4 stages namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The instruments used in this research are observation, tests, and documentation. The Discovery Learning model can improve cooperative attitudes, skills, understanding and learning outcomes. This can be seen from: first, there was an increase in preparing learning implementation plans carried out by researchers, namely in cycle I it reached 68% and cycle II 83%. Second, the increase in the implementation of learning carried out in student activities in cycle I got a score of 73 and cycle II got a score of 87 which was in the good category. Third, the average value of students also increased from cycle I to cycle II. And fourth, classical completeness has reached ≥88%. Based on the data obtained, it can be interpreted that learning science using the Discovery Learning model can improve student learning outcomes.
